In nose consultations, the first thing mentioned is usually the bridge.
"My bridge is too low." "I think I just need the bridge raised a bit."
The bridge is relatively easy to see and easy to describe. Which is why rhinoplasty often gets treated as a synonym for raising the bridge.
But apply bridge only, tip only, and both to the same face, and the three read quite differently.
We applied all three to the same photo
Every result below starts from the same profile photo, with only the nose changed.

Seen on the full face
All four images start from the same photo with only the nose changed. Toggle between them and you can see exactly where the profile line diverges.
OriginalOriginal — The profile before.
Bridge only — The upper profile line straightens. The tip stays put.
Tip only — The bridge height is untouched; only the tip is refined.
Both — The upper profile clearly rises. On this face, it tips into too much.
Worth sorting out before a consultation
- Is what bothers me the height, or the shape and angle of the tip?
- In my profile photos, is the spot I keep noticing the middle of the bridge, or the tip?
- From the front, is it the alar width that bothers me, or the length of the nose?
Bridge, tip and alae are different operations with different recovery periods. Before settling on "I want a higher bridge," it pays to break down exactly which part is actually bothering you.
